kombucha brewing begins
brew black tea. add raw sugar cane. allow to cool to room temp.
add “the baby” (a starter culture) that eats all the sugar & ferments the tea.

hands-free coffee?
cafevirtuosobyafreese:
1.) Coffee Cup holder for your bike.
2.) Coffee Cup holder for traveling.
3.) Coffee Cup holder when you need an extra hand.
(these last two are my favorites because they’re based on a project called Pop Up Lunches: a development of mobile eating tools designed for the sidewalks of NYC. )
These are the lengths one will go to enjoy good coffee.

cafe virtuoso: a day roasting with Steve →
cafevirtuoso:
Steve, co-owner and head roaster, graciously let me shadow him on a roasting day. With business growing, “roasting days” have become most days to keep up with orders and make sure we are putting out the freshest coffee. On this particular day he was doing batches of most of our coffees so it…

pizzapractice-cabbages&kings
Fig&apple pizza with sweet pickled onions and walnut pesto? Sure. cabbages&kings (my start-up culinary venture with Sati Faulks) will be providing free, locally sourced, gourmet pizzas to students on SDSU campus tomorrow afternoon. The event is for a non-profit on campus that wants to help educate students on eating healthy, organic, supporting local, and showing how good that can...
kale&eggs
I will defend that my obsession with eggs is completely warranted. There was a while where I was following the “no-egg policy”, but ever since I delved back into the world of bright yellow buttery yolks, there’s no way I’ll leggo my eggo.
It should be known that eggs are for every meal. Don’t let any dream crushers tell you different. Lately, kale&eggs has...
FOURdayweekend/so proud
Even one day of the FOUR Day Weekend musical extravaganza was a delight. This 4 day parade of great music put on by Sezio at Sushi Art last weekend was more than just some concert. The whole thing felt personal to me… in a family sort of way. I felt the kind of proud you feel sitting in the audience at your little brother’s school play. It may have been because I felt like I was...
I wanna play. Who needs a job.

Halloween Mixtape 2010
In the spirit of the holiday I’ve decided to make a Halloween inspired mixtape which includes 24 songs who’s titles can be connected to the trick-or-treater filled day in some way or another. From The Fleet Foxes to The Eagles to Lady GaGa Remixes, this…

forts have five senses
I went on a picnic, in a fort, in an art museum. It will not be the last time I do this.
Wes Bruce constructed a fort at The Bakery in Barrio Logan last month. He stated his hopes were that it would be an exploration of living architecture. A sort of, livable, interactive place, exploring all the inter-workings inside the person that perhaps lives there in the fort and almost personifying...
